Martin Zimmermann

For over 25 years, Swiss choreographer, director, and set designer Martin Zimmermann has been creating a unique artistic universe blending contemporary circus, dance, theatre, and spectacular stage installations. Renowned for his humour, sense of magic, and embrace of the absurd, he crafts strange and singular worlds where everyday objects, removed from their usual context, become dislocated—even absurd.
At the core of his work lies a dialogue between the body and objects endowed with a life of their own, evolving within unstable and threatening environments. Zimmermann meticulously dissects each character, letting the visual and physical take precedence over words to unveil the invisible and make the improbable tangible. The human being, in all its complexity, is at the centre of his artistic inquiry.

Since 2010, Martin Zimmermann has been collaborating with Claire Béjanin as his international producer, and since 2023 with Au Contraire Productions, particularly on the show Louise. His works, performed in major festivals and theatres worldwide, have earned him prestigious awards, including the Swiss Grand Award for Performing Arts in 2021.
